Our library has been compared recently to a Convention Center.
While preparing for a presentation about Web 2.0, I watched the video Networked Student. It talks about the changing role of teachers. And of course – this would include teacher-librarians.
In a networked world, teachers and teacher-librarians must take on the following roles:
- Learning Architect
- Modeler
- Learning Concierge
- Connected Learning Incubator
- Network Sherpa
- Synthesizer
- Change Agent
It occurs to me – our mission is to prepare EVERY students to be a teacher. In a connected world, everyone must know how to teach themselves AND how to teach what they learn to others – whether in-person or online.
I’m pretty interested in learning more about this. I just started taking Computer Applications this semester!
I will be interested in hearing about what your course involves. Am I right to assume it will be geared towards computer applications in a library?
If I had only ONE thing to say to a new librarian, I would say to do EVERYTHING possible to make sure the library is involved in scheduling the labs – or at least the laptop carts – as much as possible. Once those computers go into the classroom, there is too much danger of librarians being eliminated from the educational equation. Also – we are simply in the best position to understand the needs and allocate the resources in the most efficient, equitable, and cost-effective way possible.
