As a northern white person, somehow the confederate flag used to evoke amusing images of Boss Hog and those cute and fun-loving Dukes of Hazard. Until someone suggested that, in a black person’s eyes, it brings with it the same shocking and fearful horror evoked by the Nazi flag. That sure brought me up short and changed my mind on the issue. A flag flying over a government building reflects government support of that flag. What would be the reaction in Germany, Israel and the rest of the world if German government buildings were to fly the Nazi flag?
