Editorial: Trump should pull the plug on his bloviating side show

I cannot BELIEVE that ANYONE is taking Donald Trump seriously as a presidential candidate.  Aside from being supremely unqualified…he is positively dangerous.  Imagine giving this thoughtless blowhard the power of the presidency.  I would think it was all a Facebook meme, except it is for real and he is seriously dangerous.  Please tell me it is all a bad dream and I will wake up soon.  On the other hand, he does make the other Republican candidates look better by comparison.  Shockingly, despite my liberal tendencies, there are 1 or 2 candidates that I do NOT find terrifying.

I am finding it difficult to pick a category for this post. Should it be Political Issues…or Humor?  I don’t presently have a category for Train Wrecks. Maybe I need to create one as long as I am revamping this blog….

  1. Perhaps you should explore the terrifying idea that The Donald is ahead in the polls. He doesn’t frighten me, as long as he doesn’t get elected to any office; he’s just a self-involved blowhard with an authoritarian style. Sometimes in the twisted maze of his ramblings are the germs of an interesting idea or two, worth bringing to the table. What saddens and scares me most is that there are thousands of voters who would vote for him as is. What does that say about the others running for office, the choices that are out there? It’s a shabby, over-funded contest with a low, low bar.

  2. Thanks for the comment Linda! I am hoping his standing in the polls will go down after the John McCain fiasco. I suspect almost any Republican has a very good chance to win this election….so that is what really scares me. Still….if he were to run, maybe Hillary would have a better chance. Although I like Hillary, I think if she were to run against any somewhat reasonable Republican candidate she will lose. She is TOO disliked by too many conservatives. And – she has the same problem as Jeb. People want to get away from the Bushes and the Clintons.

  3. In Europe, Trump is considered a chump – but then so are a lot of the Republican candidates. Naturally enough, we see them in European terms, where religion, racism and jazzed nationalism are considered ‘fringe politics’. Here, I think, they would never be electable. I think it’s a shame that the Democrats have Hillary as their probable candidate, for reasons you mention above. Are Bernie Saunders and Elizabeth Warren considered too far to the left to take seriously?

  4. I fear that the what was once considered “fringe politics” here in the US, suddenly has a real chance to win. I blame that on the rabid hatred of some for our first black president. Racism never dies.

I would LOVE to see Elizabeth Warren run…but she seems pretty firm that she is out of the race. I DO think she is too liberal- though the pundits say that Hillary is too moderate and should move a little to the left to be elected. I don’t really understand that thinking. In my mind, we need someone in the middle who might be able to bring people together after so much divisiveness. First the Bush years and then the Obama years. I disliked Bush very much and was thrilled when Obama was elected. I still like him very much and admire what he has been able to to do in spite of the determination of the Republicans to thwart him at every turn.

I also like Bernie Sanders and he HAS put his hat in the ring. I just think he is way too far left to get elected.

We really need someone that the broad middle of the voters can support (or at least accept) and who will be able to work with both sides to get things done. Sometimes I think the UK has it right. Vote in a whole party and then throw the bums out when you get sick of them! 🙂
